In 3 words: Experienced, creative, top producer. Carol Dopkin began her real estate career in Baltimore, Maryland before she brought her talents to the Rocky Mountains. This is where she created “Real Estate with Horse Sense” and rented her first real estate office in downtown Aspen as Carol Dopkin Real Estate Inc. Carol operated her own company for 30 plus years and has been a consistent top producer ever since. Now she is proud and excited to be a part of Engel and Völkers Aspen.

 

Carol is knowledgeable in all types of real estate from starter homes, executive estates, horse properties, condominiums, land, and commercial and investment properties. While riding on her first horse, Feather, through the countryside on McLain Flats of Aspen, Carol fell in love with the Valley and horses. That was many horses ago! Today, Carol's barn at the Dopkin Ranch on McLain Flats houses guest horses of show quality and young horses headed toward blue ribbon dreams. All of the horses work “hoof in hand “ with Carol to sell real estate. Often when clients come to see the horses Carol reminds them that her horses are working horses. They sell real estate! Clients are invited to join Carol’s fabulous string of horses or journey on horseback to magnificent heights with exclusive and breathtaking views of Aspen, meander the trail along the Roaring Fork River or catch an up-close view of available horse properties! Or just collect fresh eggs from the beautiful chickens at the Dopkin Ranch.

 

In addition to real estate and horses, Carol is passionate about giving back to this wonderful community. Presently she is a member and former President of the Roaring Fork Valley Horse Council, a nonprofit organization she founded to preserve trails in the Roaring Fork Valley, educate the public on equestrian issues, help horses in need, support other nonprofits devoted to equestrian endeavors, and be the voice of the horse. It now boasts over 300 members and is a major force in the community.

 

In line with the Horse Council’s mission, Carol assists Pitkin County in their efforts to acquire property to preserve open space. Carol also serves as President of the White Horse Springs Water District Board and the White Horse Springs Irrigation Group Board. These two boards serve the McLain Flats area to preserve and protect domestic and irrigation water to maintain the beautiful green horse country just 10 minutes from downtown Aspen. In addition, Carol serves on the board of the Salvation Ditch, a major source of irrigation water to the Roaring Fork Valley.

 

Serving on these water boards has allowed Carol to become knowledgeable about water rights in Colorado, a valuable and unique skill that serves both her Buyers and Sellers. Water rights in Colorado are an important factor when buying or selling, so a trusted advisor with this knowledge is a big advantage for clients. In the past, Carol served on the Buddy Program Board and the Response Board and continues to support these important community services today. She also used to be a volunteer ski instructor to guide blind skiers who wanted to experience our amazing mountains and contributed to the Susan B. Komen organization by creating a horseback ride for the cure to raise awareness of breast cancer.

 

Carol lives with her husband Buzz in their beautiful McLain Flats home on Dopkin Ranch. Buzz is an entrepreneur, developer, home designer, pilot, classic car collector, and artist. Her two sons Richard and Robert Orman grew up in Aspen with Carol and Buzz. The Aspen Schools launched them to top universities and careers in law and medicine.
